The Best Homemade Spaghetti Sauce
Today I am sharing my all-time favorite homemade spaghetti sauce. This is the spaghetti sauce my mom made while I was growing up and spaghetti night was always the best night because of this sauce. In fact, one of my brothers would forego the pasta and just eat this straight out of a cup. It really is that delicious. Everyone I have shared this recipe with has told me that it has become their family's go-to spaghetti sauce recipe.
It is made with ground beef and pork sausage, but I'm sure you could substitute ground turkey or chicken. It might not taste quite the same, but I think your results would still be good. Another plus is this is a sugar free spaghetti sauce. If, however, after you have made it and given it a taste, if you feel it needs a touch of sugar to satisfy your taste, a bit can be easily added and stirred in at the end.
This spaghetti sauce is best if it is made a couple hours in advance and allowed to slowly simmer to bring all the ingredients together. I will admit that in a pinch, I have made it when I could only give it 30 minutes of simmer time and it is still delicious. I just don't think you can go wrong with this recipe.
This is the only spaghetti sauce that some of my boys will eat, so I always make a double batch and freeze half of it to use for a quick dinner another time. Once it is re-heated from frozen, you can't even tell that it wasn't made fresh that day.
I have also used this sauce in other Italian dishes like lasagna with stellar results!
Serve this with a big salad and some garlic bread or my easy breadsticks and this meal will hit the spot.
