A Simple Christmas Sign

For about a year now, I have wanted to make a Christmas sign to go over my mantle during the Christmas season, but I never got around to it because creating a painted/stenciled sign is quite a bit of work, and to be honest, sometimes my results were disappointing.

A couple of weeks ago I ran onto this tutorial at DIY Beautify on how to distress a sign made with craft vinyl, so that your sign looks like it has been painted.  I decided to give it a try, because if it worked it would certainly save me a lot of time and frustration.

I designed this simple sign, applied the vinyl to my board, and took some sandpaper to it.  My littlest guy wouldn't let me distress it more than this.  He told me to "quit ruining it, Mom!"

I love how it turned out. The light distressing makes it look just like one of my painted boards that took sooooooo much longer to make.  I love this technique and am so happy that I found DIY Beautify's tutorial.

**She used a shiny craft vinyl on her project, but mine was a matte finish and it worked really well.

I love this simple Christmas sign.  It adds so much holiday cheer to our family room.
