Sweet and Sour Pork

I have been making this recipe for Sweet and Sour Pork for years.  The other night when I took a quick photo of it before dinner, my husband was surprised it wasn't already on the blog.  It is a family favorite that is often requested for birthdays and special occasions, but we have it on regular old weeknights too, because it is simple to make and everyone loves it.

The recipe calls for pork shoulder, but honestly, I almost always use pork loin, and skip the simmering step that you would need if using pork shoulder.

I like the onions nice and caramelized, but if you prefer them to be a little more raw and crisp, you can add them at the end with the green pepper.

I love how this sweet and sour pork is a little healthier than most recipes because rather than the pork being breaded and deep-fried, it is sauteed in a bit of oil.  I promise, this recipe is so good, you won't even miss the breaded/fried component.  Plus, it is that much easier to make (and clean up) due to skipping those steps.

So here is our long-time family favorite Sweet and Sour Pork recipe...

I hope you enjoy this delicious sweet & sour pork as much as we do!
